While GTA IV single player is reason enough to get excited on its own, apart from the more mature story line and the huge attention to detail, it really isn't pushing the GTA franchise in any new direction. Which is why multiplayer is such a big deal. And Rockstar hasn't cut any corners either - there are 14 different modes offering a wealth of different configurations suiting every type of play. Want to rag it around the city in a race against fellow players? Try Race and GTA Race modes! Want to create general mayhem and chaos? Try Deathmatch! Want to team up against other players? There's Team Deathmatch, Cops n' Crooks, Team Carjack City and Turf War! Want to Team up against the AI? Try Deal Braker, Bomb Da Base II and Hangman's Noose" Want to team up against the computer AND against other players? Try Team Mafia Work! Don't want to do any of that? Try Free Mode! You get the idea. But quantity doesn't necessarily mean quality, so what is it really like? Well, other developers can probably breathe a sigh of relief right now - despite what many speculated about GTA IV multiplayer, it is not the be all and end all of multiplayer console gaming.
